Gift giving can be a frustrating experience for a lot of people. Instead of buying a physical item from a store, which could end up in a landfill after the gift has been given, think experiential gifts: a dinner out, a massage gift certificate, tickets to a play. Not only are these gifts less wasteful, but they can be more appreciated than that cat sweater you've been eyeing.

To get your gingham blanket looking its best for your Memorial Day picnic, let the hot sun do the work for you. Rub salt and lemon on any old stains and then hang it outside on a clothesline. The salt will help scour the stain, and the lemon juice will brighten the spot. After a few hours, wipe off the stained area with a damp towel and let the blanket air-dry.

Did you know for every extra 100 pounds of stuff in your car, the fuel efficiency is reduced around 2 percent? While that may not sound like a lot, over time that adds up to a significant amount of gas -- and money -- wasted hauling around those never-used golf clubs. Take the time to clean out the car of paperwork, magazines, and even snow removal tools you do not use in the summer months. Those extra items can all add up to significant weight.
