The portable GPS has become almost as ubiquitous as the seat belt in American cars. While a GPS can be helpful in navigating unchartered territory, it also draws power from your car's battery when you're not using it. So, when running errands or driving to work, unplug your GPS and turn it off. This will help conserve energy and help reduce wear and tear on the device, too.

A natural and efficient way to purify the air inside your home is through indoor plants. But if your plants get sick -- you'll see white or black mold spores on the outside of the leaves -- they can also contribute to an unhealthy air environment. For sturdy plants, wipe down the leaves with a damp microfiber towel to pick up the mold spores, then wash the cloth in hot water to sanitize it. For more delicate plants, rinse them clean with cool water in a deep sink or bathtub. Let the plant drain and air-dry, then return it to a sunny spot in your home.

Inkjet printers often use pricey cartridges that seem to dry up immediately after you've installed them. To maximize and economize your cartridges, do two things: Set your printer settings to draft mode, and print Word documents using Century Gothic, which uses less ink than most commonly used fonts. And when the cartridges run out of ink, take them to stores like Walgreens, which can refill them at a fraction of the cost of buying new.
