While fast food may not be the healthiest or greenest option, for some of us it is the most convenient one. When choosing between using the drive-thru or going into the restaurant to pick up your order, always park, turn off your car and walk in. The average drive-thru order takes about three minutes, enough idling time for all of America to be wasting hundreds of millions of dollars worth of fuel. And remember: Be sure to add "no straw" to your order.

It used to be that when a light bulb burnt out, you had just a handful of choices to replace it. With the wide variety of energy-efficient bulbs out there now, it can be confusing to figure out which one works with which socket. The free smartphone app Light Bulb Finder works with your zip code and lighting needs to instantly recommend energy-efficient bulbs. These bulbs will fit and look right and are the best value. CFL, LED or Halogen? Now you don't have to decide. Visit lightbulbfinder.net for more information.

Even if you can't afford a hybrid car, you can keep track of your tire pressure to increase fuel efficiency. Find out from your car's manual what the maximum pressure is for your tires -- it's usually around 35 pounds per square inch (PSI) for most. Then invest in a tire pressure gauge to make sure each tire has the correct PSI. If any is low, you're decreasing your fuel efficiency. If that's the case, pop some quarters into the air machine at the gas station and fill them up until they reach their maximum PSI.
