A car is like a mini greenhouse with all its windows. In the summer months, a parked car can heat up quickly in the sun -- up to 120 degrees in just 10 minutes -- making it an incredibly uncomfortable environment when you hop back into the car. To help keep it cooler, park it under a shady spot or crack the windows a little to help it ventilate. And as always: Never leave a pet or child in a parked car.

If you're landscaping around your home and considering what ground cover plants to use, think of buying double-use edible plants like herbs for your yard. Fast-growing and pleasant-smelling herbs such as rosemary, sage, thyme and mint are good options. Plus you can just pluck and cook with fresh herbs anytime you want.

The next time you redeem a gift card at the store, don't toss it out when you've spent the whole amount. Instead, consider recharging the card at the store and gift it to someone else who may have a birthday or other celebration coming up. Most cards are rechargeable and reusable, so just pass it along!
