An easy and efficient way to save on heating and cooling costs is by making use of your ceiling fans to help circulate the air in your house. To save on heating costs in the winter, be sure the fan is turning in a clockwise direction to help push rising heat down. Be sure to reverse the fan back to counter-clockwise in the summer months to cool the rooms.

Tired of getting supermarket circulars in the mail? It can be an arduous process to get your name taken off the mailing lists of individual stores, so the next best thing is to become friends with your postal carrier. Tell him you simply do not want any of the circulars and he will be your best defense in not delivering unnecessary flyers to your home.

Many stores and office buildings in major cities require people who walk in with a wet umbrella to insert it into a new plastic bag to prevent drips of water from ruining the floors or creating a safety hazard. As people leave the building to re-enter the dreary day, they unwrap the bag and toss it into the trash. The next time you enter a store or building and are asked to do this, simply grab a barely used bag out of the trash can and use it to wrap your umbrella. It's clean and it's reusable, and everyone's happy.
