Planting a tree is one of the easiest and most beautiful ways to give back to the Earth, but many people worry their planting skills are more brown than green. Take a zero-risk approach by buying a tree or shrub from a national store like Lowe's or Home Depot, which guarantees that the plant will live or they'll replace it free of charge within the first year. Simply bring back the dead plant and the receipt.

The next time you order pizza from your local joint, ask them to do one simple thing: place a sheet of aluminum foil on the bottom of the box, then put the pizza on top. This accomplishes two things: One, it helps keep the pizza hotter, longer, and two, it prevents grease from leaking onto the bottom of the box. A clean pizza box is a recyclable one; a greasy one is one that should be put in the trash. Don't forget: Clean aluminum foil is also recyclable in your curbside-recycling bin.

Today, Earth Day, the Origins beauty company is giving people the chance to trade in one of their existing skin care products (any brand) for a free, full-size cleanser at any Origins retail store or department store counter. Customers will have a choice between the Checks and Balances face wash or A Perfect World antioxidant cleanser. All of the packaging collected will be recycled through the company's Return to Origins Recycling Program.
