Be sure to replace your furnace filter on a regular basis when it's time to either replace it or wash it. A dirty filter forces the furnace to work harder and a clogged filter won't keep out allergen particles from your air, too. Set an automatic reminder on your smart phone device or calendar to alert you.

Many people use New Year's Day to clean out their pantry and refrigerator of unwanted and expired food. When doing this, turn down the temptation to open a trash bag and throw everything away. Be sure to toss out unwanted food and save recyclable containers; recycle away.

Many communities have recycling programs for your Christmas tree. If you can't let it decompose naturally, place it on the curb for pickup on designated collection days; it can be chipped and made into mulch. Ask your local municipality when your Christmas tree pickup day is.
