Lint should be removed frequently from the trap inside your dryer, so it runs more efficiently and safely. Instead of throwing it away, save the dryer lint when you light up the fireplace this winter by simply wadding it up into a ball and placing it under the kindling. To amass a collection of lint, stuff it in an empty tissue box you keep next to the dryer. Come blustery wintertime, you'll have plenty to get the fire roaring.

When giving out treats this Halloween, think organic instead of conventional. Many supermarkets now sell organic candy, dried fruit treats and snack foods that are a greener treat alternative. Even giving out small bags of organic pretzels or cheese crackers is a welcome change from the plethora of sugar-laden treats. Kids want something savory once in a while, too.

This Halloween, skip the store-bought costumes and make your own. Many disposable costumes are made with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and often painted with toxic paints and dyes. Be creative instead. Rummage through your own closets or thrift stores for more affordable, unique costumes you can put together yourself. Making your own costume also guarantees that you'll have something one-of-a-kind instead of a look that's mass-produced.
