Bottle caps from shampoo, soda, water, juice and detergent bottles often end up strewn in oceans because of their small size and the lack of nationwide recycling programs. Yes, these caps do need to be separated from their plastic bottles before recycling, but they don't have to be tossed in the trash. Just bring them to any Aveda store to be recycled free of charge through their Caps with Aveda program.

Spend the day going through all of your paper bills -- cable, cell phone, department stores, etc. -- and check each company's website to see if you can elect for a paperless billing option instead. Programs like YouSendIt let you send large files with ease -- and sometimes for free -- which erases the hassle of bounced-back e-mails and the waste and expense of overnight shipping.
