Using too much wood polish spray all over the house leaves a sticky film behind, which does nothing but attract more airborne dust and allergens to your furniture. Using less wood polish less frequently will leave your furniture cleaner because there won't be any sticky build-up. Yes, lazier cleaning can lead to a cleaner home.

Do you keep iPods, cell phones, rechargeable batteries (for cordless drills or cameras) plugged in all the time, charging even if they're already fully charged? Overcharging these products can actually wear down the rechargeable battery more quickly, which means you'll need to replace it sooner. Instead, use personal electronics until the battery is almost out of power and then properly charge it. Once charged up, unplug it and use as normal. This will give you hundreds of more charges and more hours of use with your cordless products.

Worn bath and beach towels that need to be replaced can have a second life. Use them to dry off the dog after a bath or to wipe off his paws after a run through the mud. Leave a folded towel by the front door and rest dirty shoes on top; they'll absorb the excess toxins and dirt. Or cover the cargo space in your car with towels when transporting something that may spill or leave dirt behind.
