There's one more thing you can bring to the dry cleaner when dropping off your clothes: a garment bag. Instead of wrapping your sweaters, shirts and jackets in individual plastic bags that will end up in the landfill, ask the dry cleaner to hang everything in your own bag. Bonus: If you're a frequent flyer, your clothes are ready to go. Just pack and go.

If you're like me, you have a stack of unwanted CDs that you're not quite sure what to do with. Sure, you could donate them to Goodwill, where they'll just join the mounds of other donated discs collecting dust, but why not trade them in for music you'll actually want? Swapacd.com is an online community that lets you swap your old CDs with other music lovers. Find one you want and post ones you're willing to give away. It's that easy.

While it may be tempting to put out a heated bird bath to offer a fresh supply of water in the freezing cold, don't. Birds are drawn to the warm water to drink and bathe in, but don't realize they could quickly freeze to death just mere seconds after leaving. In the winter, turn over your bird baths and fill them up again in the spring when the weather turns warmer.
