No waste and instant gratification.

This week, take the initiative to just say no. Pay attention when you go out to pick up your regular morning muffin, lunchtime salad or mid-afternoon snack. Does your favorite shop always give you a big stack of napkins and cutlery, even if you just toss it all in the trash back at work? It's OK to say no to excess packaging. In fact, most stores will appreciate it. The less they have to give away, the more money they save.

For your Labor Day picnic, pick up summer's last bountiful harvest from your local farmer's markets and roadside stands. Not only will the sweetest, tastiest corn, watermelon and other assorted treats taste the freshest at your party, but you'll also be supporting local farmers. And since the produce didn't need to be shipped in from abroad, you're saving money, too. But the best part? It's just fun.
