The Soaps: Tune In Tomorrow

Soap Stars Land Prime Time Roles

“General Hospital” cast member Vernee Watson, who just won her second Daytime Emmy for her role as the outspoken Stella, nabbed the role of Gloria in the new CBS sitcom “Bob Hearts Abishola,” from Chuck Lorre. While there is no official word on how the prime-time gig might affect Watson’s daytime one, it’s quite likely she will be able to handle both parts.

Meanwhile, former “General Hospital” cast member Vinessa Antoine, who originated the role of Jordan, but left the soap last year for the Canadian prime-time series “Diggstown,” has snared another gig. Antoine has landed a recurring role on the upcoming CBS All Access true crime series “Interrogation. “

“Excited for this one,” posted Antoine on Instagram, encouraging her followers to “stay tuned.”

Thaao Penghlis (Tony/Andre DiMera) and Leann Hunley (Anna DiMera) posted online that they will be returning to “Days of Our Lives” in the near future. Yes, both Tony and Andre are “dead,” but we also know that it is common for soaps to bring back characters from the great beyond. So, like his father, Stefano DiMera (Joseph Moscolo), who came back from the dead so often that he was known to fans of the show as “The Phoenix,” Tony or Andre’s (which character Penghlis will be playing was not known at this time) return is not a big surprise. Penghlis joined “Days” in 1981 as Tony until the character was killed off in 2009. He returned this past March to help Marlena (Deidre Hall) come back from a near-death episode. Penghlis began playing Andre in 1983 until that character met his end last year. Hunley played Tony’s wife, Anna, beginning in 1982 and was last seen in 2018.

In the wake of Greg Rikaart’s return to “The Young and the Restless” in his former role of Kevin Fisher, who is determined to find Chloe (Elizabeth Hendrickson, who is also returning to the show in the near future), Eileen Davidson returned to the show’s canvas as Ashley Abbott last week. Viewers can also expect to see the return of Chelsea Lawson played by Melissa Claire Egan (no air date as yet), a con woman of the utmost degree, who may be the cause of Jabot’s recent problems.

The annual Katherine Kelly Lang Bus Tour Adventures will be held on June 20 and June 21, which kicks off the official “B&B” Fan Club weekend. All proceeds benefit Breakaway for Cancer. For information, go to:
