The Soaps: Tune In Tomorrow

Jacklyn Zeman, who began appearing as Barbara Jean (Bobbie) Spencer on “General Hospital” in December 1977, is celebrating her 40th anniversary with the show. Zeman received a Daytime Emmy nomination in the Outstanding Supporting Actress category in 1980-81 for her work on “GH.” During her first year on "GH," Zeman was simultaneously appearing on “One Life to Live” as Lana McClain, who was killed off a short while after Zeman began appearing on “GH." This was unheard of at the time, as the networks were not keen on their stars appearing on two different shows at the same time.

When Zeman began playing Bobbie, she was a teenage hooker -- a bad girl, but not an evil girl. She had a traumatic childhood spent with alcoholic parents. Bobbie also had a bad-boy big brother, Luke Spencer, played by Anthony Geary, who decided that he would always refer to Zeman’s character as “Barbara Jean.” As part of her bad girl image, Bobbie worked hard to undermine Luke’s romance with Laura (Genie Francis), but her efforts were to no avail. Bobbie is also the mother of Carly, who at the time was played by Tamara Braun (2001-05). Zeman, who shares a long friendship with Braun, was thrilled when Braun recently rejoined the cast in her new role of Kim Nero. Zeman is also excited about some upcoming scenes with Laura Wright, who has played Carly since 2005.

Ingo Rademacher (Thorne Forrester on “The Bold and the Beautiful,” ex-Jasper Jacks, “General Hospital”) and Haley Pullos (Molly Davis, “GH”) appear in the ION production “A Royal Christmas Ball,” which airs on that channel on Dec. 10 at 9 p.m.

Rademacher plays King Charles of Baltinia, a middle-aged bachelor, and Pullos plays 17-year-old Lily. Needing a date for the annual Christmas ball, Charles (Rademacher) looks up a former American college sweetheart, Allison (Tara Reid, ex-Ashley, “Days of Our Lives”) and learns that although she never married, she raised a 17-year-old daughter (Pullos), who could be his child. The movie also stars Marc Anthony Samuel (Felix DuBois, “GH”) and Mykel Shannon Jenkins (Det. Charlie Baker, “The Bold and the Beautiful”).

We do not have an exact airdate as yet, but Kelly Thiebaud is set to make another short-term appearance on “General Hospital" as Britt Westbourne, who is the daughter of Liesl Obrecht, played by Kathleen Gati. Thiebaud first played Britt from 2012-14 and briefly returned in 2015.

On "Days of Our Lives," Shawn Douglas (Brandon Beemer) and Belle Black (Martha Madison) leave their home in Hong Kong to return to Salem for a brief stint this week, bringing Hope’s (Kristian Alfonso) daughter Ciara, played by newcomer Victoria Konefal, with them. Their return is in part due to the fact that Ciara is worried about her friend Theo Carver (Kyler Pettis), who was shot and is in a coma. They will also be a part of the annual “Days” Christmas celebration. Konefal was Miss Poland USA in 2015, guest-starred on “Modern Family” and appeared in the film “Deadly Exchange.”
