Almost every recycling program in the United States has this rule: Do not bag your recyclables. Plastic bags are the No. 1 contaminant in recycling collections and should be avoided at all costs. In fact, some recycling facilities have rules that if a bag full of recyclables comes to the facility, it is deemed "trash" and workers are barred from opening the bag, even if it's a clear plastic bag full of recyclables. Let your recyclables stay comingled and unbagged when you recycle.
