There's a big difference between bags and products labeled "compostable" versus "biodegradable." Under normal composting situations, items labeled compostable will degrade over time as microbes feed on the items and break them down into beneficial mulch. Biodegradable items, on the other hand, could take months or years to break down under the right conditions. In a landfill situation, biodegradable products could stay totally intact, since the conditions are not ideal for decomposition of these items. For compostable items, feel free to compost them at home or in your municipal composting program.
