Did you know that black-colored plastic should not be recycled? The reason is because black plastic does not reflect light, and reflection is what scanners need to work at recycling facilities. When black plastic bypasses the scanners, it easily can end up in a load of, say, glass and accidentally contaminate it. It’s also expensive to recycle black plastic; black plastic can only be made into other black plastic, so the time-consuming sorting process also makes it not worth it.
