Some DIY bird-feeder projects call for rolling pine cones or fruit in honey and then coating the entire outside with birdseed as a decorative way to feed our feathered friends. These DIY projects should be avoided at all cost. While honey is natural, it's not a good thing for birds to consume, because honey is an easy material for bacteria and mold to grow in, and those can be fatal to birds. Instead, stick with birdseed that's fresh and clean if you do want to feed birds in your backyard.
