One of the hazards of driving on roads and highways is the unexpected wild animal darting in front of you. According to the Humane Society of the United States, wildlife is more likely to be found on roads at dawn, dusk and in the first few hours of darkness, so be more cautious during those times. And when there are roads bordered by woods or fields, be even more cautious: Wild animals that cross are likely to have young animals trailing them. Finally, lower your dashboard lights slightly: It will help you see the reflection of your headlights in animals' eyes more clearly.
