DEAR SOMEONE ELSE’S MOM: I don’t get why my girlfriend is always so mad at me when I tell her I just sold plasma. My job pays crap and it’s a way to make a little extra cash, and hopefully, help someone out. She thinks it’s wrong to be selling what others donate for free, but she doesn’t have to pay my bills.
What can I say to convince her I’m not selling my soul, just some plasma? --- DONOR IN DUTCH
DEAR DONOR IN DUTCH: You mentioned it in your note, and perhaps a better tactic would be to emphasize the benefits someone may receive from your plasma, rather than what you’re getting out of the deal.
It would also be good if you considered doing true donations when you find yourself in a more comfortable financial situation someday. Having that as your endgame might make the current situation more palatable to your girlfriend.
